I Rode!

To some that might not sound like a big deal, but this year for me, it seems to be a rare occurrence. It wasn’t a long ride, and I really wasn’t planning on riding, but things went smoothly so I figured what-the-hay. I am riding in a 4-day Brannaman clinic in a few weeks so I better start “cramming for the test” so-to-speak. And it’s not a Foundation class, so no groundwork warm-up during the class, although I would love it if there was!

My last serious riding was in a 4-day Peter Campbell clinic back in March. It was a great experience and I came away with lots of positive learning experiences. Unfortunately, I probably lost a good deal of what I learned because I didn’t KEEP riding.

I am happy to report that Paddock Boy even snapped some pictures as proof of my ride! Poor Toad wasn’t too happy with his girlfriend not by his side. Heheheheh! And Ginger and Pepper kept trying to get my attention as well.

(sorry about that. Way too many typos)

How exciting!
Good for you getting up and out there, just in time, too.
And with a real latigo, no less! hehe
Did you manage to rope some cows today, too? :)

I wanna know more about those rope reins, too. They seem to be really long. Is that part of the reins hanging off your leg?

I'd like to get a pair of nice soft rope reins for everyday, and save my nice leather reins.

Keep up the good riding. Woot Woot!!

Lisa,

I’ll make a detailed post about my tack in the future for sure. Here’s the abbreviated version about my headstall and reins.

The reins are actually a 20 foot mohair mecate from Sara Hagel. I ordered it last September when I was at Buck’s for a week-long clinic. It arrived in March, just in time for the Peter Campbell clinic. The headstall is from Houlihan Horse Gear, the conchos are from King Feed I think and the slobber straps are from King’s Saddlery in Sheridan, WY, as is a Jeremiah Watt egg butt snaffle bit. Pretty much a fancied up version of a snaffle bit bridle because of the conchos and reins. The colors were specially picked by myself and Sara to match Buena’s coloring.

You can read more about a mecate (or McCarty) setup here.

The long drape of rein you see in some of the photos is my lead rope portion of the mecate.

You and Buena are a vision to behold. Both of you look ready to hit the long trail and just keep right on going.

I am envious. Still waiting for Raven's leg to heal up, but the weather was stunning this weekend.

Aw thanks folks. I am really having fun with this blog stuff. I spent a bunch of time working on a great new post last night and will hopefully get it wrapped up this morning. I think you will like it. I just need to snap a few more pictures to add to it.
