OMG isn't it a little early for that? I notice the grass is growing and things are getting green. We still have a couple of more months of winter to go. Bet the farmers are freaking.

No way! Not here, anyway...we're heading back into the deep freeze.

CJS, sooner than you think!

SOSHorses, I don't know if any one blogger out there founded WW.

Amanda, not really. Like clockwork Buena starts shedding around New Years Day. Not a lot mind you, but a few hairs here and there. As the winter rolls along she gets rid of more and more hair. Unfortunately, the same goes for her summer coat...she starts shedding out her summer hair and growing winter’s layer right around the 4th of July.

Shirley, you gotta remember that their hair coat is mostly triggered by the amount of daylight and the days started getting longer after the winter solstice!

Spring is coming!

Pyrite is the the technical word for fool's gold. Do you think there is a word for fool's spring? I'm not calling you a fool of course -- only commenting that Buena might be a little ahead of herself.

dp, yeah, I can see why you might think that, but she has done this every year! I actually look forward to noting it. The first year I spotted her shedding so early was New Years Eve! I like to think she’s trying to tell me something about the sunshine and warm days to come. Nothing foolish about that. ;) Smart pony. :)

Amazing!!! None of my 9 have started any shedding yet. Isn't is interesting how every horse has their own quirks like that...to the point you can set your calendar!!

I had no idea horses shed, I knew you brushed them, but I always thought that was for grooming. I think I need to take horse 101.. :-)

I am so glad I am not going crazy! I noticed Mecry shedding before heading back to school last Sunday, but I don't know what is normal for her yet since I haven't had her as wooly as she is this year! :)
