What Do YOU See?

This is a set up. I want to get everyone’s opinions about what you see in these photos of Buena. I recently had my vet Dr. Bob from Mt. Rainier Equine Services out and he enlightened me on some things that I had been thinking about, but didn’t have confirmation of. I will explain his findings in a follow up post once I have seen what all of my readers ideas might be.

Here are the pictures for you to peruse and examine. Click on each picture to view larger versions. Oh, and for the handful of people that might know of what I am talking about, no spoilers please!

Does she have a problem seeing things directly in front of her?

Cataracts?
Honestly, I am curious to know the diagnosis-nothing looked glaringly wrong to me. . .

Did she smash her eye? the pics are realy hard to tell anything when you dont know what is going on. In the last pic it looks like the left eye is flat. But there are no tear tracks or anything present. Or is she having some moonblindness coming on.

Looks like some swelling over that left eye. Does she also have difficulty opening it?
Is this an injury or or something that's been building up gradually?

I can't wait to find out the diagnosis and prognosis.

Oh gosh Liz, very hard to tell. The left eye does look different. Maybe the eyes are offset a bit from each other? But that could just be the angle of the picture, though. They do look more closed or unfocused (from the flash?)
Curious to hear the findings!

Buena, do you have Shannon Doherty eyes?

It's OK Buena, Shannon Doherty is a model, and you're way prettier than she is.

Well, the first thing I thought of is that whole thing about the whorls and what direction they go, but you don't seem like the type that would pay much mind to stuff like that, so tell us, tell us.

Looks like her off side eye socket is off-set- lower down and farther back on her head. Cant wait to read what the vet says!!

I agree with Mrs Mom, looks like the right eye, the one on the left, is lower down and a bit back. Her right ear is also looking like it is having trouble...just a bit droopy.
Did she get an injury to her head or does she have something neurological going on?

I'm with Mrs. Mom and Cactus Jack on this. Her right eye looks swollen a little, lower than her left eye and the ear could just be her listening to something or it couold be connected to her eye problem. Do tell!

Yup - I'm with MM & CJS (and Shirley), too. Or are we all being overly concerned horse parents and imagining things that aren't there? (And don't vets just love us - lol!) Diagnosis, please :)

Yep, looks like the eyes are off-set from one another...injury or birth defect? Interested in knowing...

I have no idea, just wanted to say hi! But the eye does look a bit off.

The left eye does not appear to be fully open in any of the pics, and it seems like we ought to be able to see more of both eyeballs - almost like the eyelids are overgrown somehow. And the more I look the more it seems like she might have a wandering eye.

Hey Liz...stop by my blog, I've got a lil' something for ya!

Not sure what I am seeing but like others have said her left eye looks a little flat or sunken in. I hope she is alright and it's nothing serious!
Pretty girl!

Well, of course, the first thing I saw was the turkey marking, her blaze etc, has a lovely standing turkey vulture painting.
Sorry! Duh.
Her right eye and hollow above maybe looks like it's been "buffed" sorta downward? Hard to tell. Or she just isn't symmetrical?
??

I agree with everyone else her eyes don't look level. I also noticed that her swirl is above level with her eyes (which is good IMO) and the star looks like a thought bubble.

What else are we supposed to see?

Leah Fry said...

Well crap, guess I missed that one. I learn something new every darn day. This is it for today. Thank you.

Many of you are on the right track. I am still waiting on the vet write-up before I post because I want to make sure I have it right. Sufficed to say, she will be just fine. :)

HI there L Liz!
Thanks for signing up to "Follow/Lead/Share" with me!

Um...firstly, I laughed at the close up top-o-head along side of your horse! But secondly I noticed a sunken in spot in the sinus cavity above it's left eye...then I noticed the eye lid appears to be drooping over the right eye..and the socket, it is so different than the left..it seems to be rotated of just plain lower!
Has that affected vision and temperment?

Liz, when are we going to find out what is going on with your horse?

Brenda said...

Well when are you going to fill us in? I cant wait to hear.

jane augenstein said...

Have you found out what is wrong with her eye???

LatigoLiz said...

OK, I didn’t get it posted last night as planned. *sigh* And I am heading out to RIDE today, so I will get it done soon!

I don't know about the eye thing, nor the swirl in the middle of her forehead, but I do LOVE the beautiful white dove slowly raising from someones hands reaching up. Poetic or what????
